Mike Hennessy: Leading Innovations at Wana Brands


Mike Hennesy heads up innovation at Wana Brands, the largest US-based cannabis edibles company with focus on developing solutions to the challenges of dosing cannabis and optimizing its therapeutic effects. He oversees research and development, business analytics, training programs and strategic partnership building. He developed Wana is online interactive training program that covers the science of endocannabinoid medicine.

While in college at the University of Maryland where he studied environmental science, Mike witnessed firsthand how cannabis products from the illicit market could prevent and treat seizures that that a good friend was having. At that time, Maryland’s medical cannabis program was not operational. He saw how much of a debilitating disease it was when his friend didn’t have access to any of his medicine. Shortly after graduation, Mike moved to Colorado which had recently become a legal cannabis market and where he started with Wana Brands. Now, his focus on edibles is on solutions to the challenges to dosing and optimization the therapeutic effects.

To better understand the complexities of cannabis science and therapeutics, Mike is a member of the first cohort of the nation’s first graduate program in cannabis science at The University of Maryland School of Pharmacy. Mike joins other leading and innovative cannabis industry colleagues on the Future Medical Cannabis Roundtable of the CannabizMD Cannabis Therapeutics Provider Education Forum October 3, 2020.
